Who we are
This project aims to establish a connecting platform for Irish-based literary journals, where editors and art workers can collaborate, showcase works and skillshare. The goal is to foster communication between projects across Ireland, creating a more sustainable arts ecology in independent publishing, guided by a cooperative ethos.
For writers and readers, Leabharlann Beag will feature as an information hub, and a guide for navigating the current literary scene in Ireland. For editors, we want to help free up art workers’ time and resources from administrative demands to make projects viable in the medium- and long-term, creating a more sustainable work environment, and fostering new projects by providing space to focus on our creative ambitions.
Finally, our hope is to establish an editors’ prize for short fiction in the near future – The Fionn MacCumhaill Prize, suggesting that it is only a small sample of the creativity and talent being developed in Ireland. Our goal is to celebrate new voices, and to create further incentive for writers to pursue publication in Irish-based journals.
